Art Toy Culture 2017 done and dusted for the year, Sang Hyuk Park of BAKKUNS all new “Fortune Deers” made a beautiful debut at ATC. Sang has made our hearts bleed once again as he showed more colourways of his beautiful Fortune Deers. Today he updated us with a story behind them and a wonderful set of photos to showcase them in a better light. Plus can you spot a new edition that’s never been seen before!
The deer that looks at people’s hearts was inspired by the story of the “white deer”, a traditional tale of Mount Halla in Jeju Island.
The original story is that if you see a white deer at Baek-rok-dam (the volcanic lake on top of the mountain), it will bring you good fortune.
I’ve always looked at the great mountain peak ever since I was little with awe. However, more and more buildings were built and I became busy with my own problems as time passed by.
Eventually, I did not have time to look at the mountain peak anymore. As the town became more and more grey, my heart also felt grey inside. In the hope of finding a small fortune within my busy life,
I found inspiration in the “white deer” story and re-formatted it in my own way to create an art toy.
The black deer project focuses on the destruction of Jejus nature due to rapid and thoughtless development.
The once white deer which has now become black(symbolising destruction of nature) due to the greed of people that are trying to take the golden horn(symbolising wealth and development).
Therefore, the deer must put on armour to defend itself.I believe that development is necessary. However, unnecessary and thoughtless development is currently happening in Jeju Island.
This artwork is not just about making something beautiful. If we don’t co-exist with nature, we will all cease to exist.
Please protect the natural environments – Sang

Like we said before the Koreans really have a certain clean cute style, and we’ve fallen in love with the collectives artworks. Bakkun’s Fortune Deer was one that stood out. Oversized ears and dazzling tail, the minimalistic free flowing design is a beauty all the colourways so far are beautiful. Stay tuned for the pre-order date.
