First seen at STGCC 2017 a couple of weeks back, the stage is all set for the online release of Maruma By Supermama x Mighty Jaxx. Supermama’s take on the ever-popular Daruma doll, with a cat/ Singapore Merlion twist which we were lucky to pick one up at STGCC. Now it’s your chance to own one too. This marks the very first collaboration piece from Supermama x Mighty Jaxx and hopefully, it won’t be the last.
Did you know that the eyes of our Maruma are left blank on purpose? The recipient of the doll fills in one eye upon setting the goal, then the other upon fulfilling it. In this way, every time they see the one-eyed Maruma, they recall the goal.
Close to the heart of Japanese, Daruma mimics the silhouette of Bodhidharma in a state of deep meditation, embodying the determined spirit and peaceful outlook on life; Part fish and part lion, the Merlion pays tribute to Singapore’s transformation from a down-to-earth fishing village to a city, personifying a lion’s fearless nature. Maruma celebrates the union of these two cultures— Japan’s Ganbaru spirit representing grit and perseverance; Singapore’s humble roots and symbol of courage moving forward into the future.
