Just over 3 years ago, Soasig Chamaillard x Artoyz Originals Presented the world with the Sentai Maria which stemmed from inspiration from the Virgin Maria giving grace to the Sentai culture from Japan. Now fast forward to the present day, Soasig Chamaillard x Artoyz is back with ” Super Mary OH! ”
The visual artist graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Nantes, Soasig Chamaillard articulates her work around the appropriation of the icon of the Virgin, and its diversion with icons and other pop images, always questioning our societies.
Perched on a recognizable cube, this work is no longer 25 cm as were the Sentai Maria, but now measures 40 cm.
This original version is the first of a series of 6 figurines and is limited to 400 copies.
“Here We Go”
“At first, I bought the ones that hurt me, that were broken and damaged. They were abandoned, I had to save them. No doubt I was saving myself, maybe I was afraid that they abandon me… There was a mirror effect.
I only buy damaged holy virgins anyway. Those that are in impeccable condition, they are self-sufficient, they do not need to be diverted. I have a lot of respect for the object the sculptor and if the piece is in great condition, well it will continue to live its life quietly.”…
