This came as a surprise, a good one, a spectacular one!
Robert aka Manic Images is the best kaiju photographer out there right now. If you’re a fan or simply if you’re into sofubi, chances are that you came across with his work at some point. High contrast images with superb illumination in a classic black background, his images capture the essence of sofubi and all the details in the cast like no other. You can almost feel those soft textures we all love through his images, no joke.
Not only a photographer, Robert is a hardcore collector and a connoisseur. His hard work and devotion lead him to this collaboration that will for sure be a bible for those into art and toys.
Manic Images revealed on his Instagram a project on the work with Mondo, a new sofubi book, showcasing and detailing many of the modern soft vinyl toys coming out of Japanese and Chinese production over the last decade or so.
Robert is working together with Spencer Hickman from Mondo Music and Michael Bonanno from Mondo Collectibles to explore unbelievable collections and rarities.
According to Robert himself this will be an extensive book of visuals, with some information and details of the artists and also soft vinyl origins.
This project will see the light of day next year.
Stay tuned!
Bear in mind that this image is not the final product.
