And though one may misapprehend their exaggerated appearance with the luxurious Dapper Dan outfits and the huge gold chains, this image was more like a metaphorical statement, used symbolically to represent the authority this rap duo had because of mastering their craft.
Sadly, later on, many rappers took that route literally by bragging about their riches in their songs, but this was not the case with Rakim’s thought-provoking lyricism – Elena Kazi
